How does geographic isolation affect a p opulation over time? Explain.?

An isolated population will undergo "genetic drift". The isolated population gradually aculates genetic change distinct from its parent population. Eventually the two will drift so far apart that they would not be able to interbreed were they to be re-introduced to one another.
