Good accomodation in bangkok?

i am going to thailand for 3 weeks in september, and we want to spend a few days in bangkok and sample the city,but i am travelling with 3 girls and i want them to be safe, we are going to try and take it as it comes, so don't really want to plan much,can anyone recommend good accomodation,and what parts of the city are safe?
