Why does my iTouch's Wi-Fi do this?

The Wi-Fi will work very seldom. When it doesnt work, it asks me to select a Wi-Fi network. I choose my internet and it says "Cannot Connect to ____" even when the internet on my desktop is working fine. Why is this and how can i fix it?
